before creative.
Positioning, audience definition, competitive differentiation, and messaging architecture. We dig into what makes you different and build the strategic foundation that gives every downstream piece — the website, the pitch, the content — its direction.
Why it matters
Most brands skip this.
Then pay for it later.
Brands built without a strategy foundation spend years correcting it downstream. A logo designed before you know what you stand for. A website rewritten three times because the message never clicked. A sales team with no shared language. Brand strategy isn't a luxury for companies with budget to burn — it's what makes everything else you spend actually work.

What's included
Four documents.
One complete foundation.
01
Brand Positioning
The single most important thing you'll ever write about your brand. We workshop the competitive landscape, interview stakeholders, and land on a positioning statement that's true, differentiated, and defensible.
- Positioning statement
- Competitive differentiation map
- Category definition
- Proof points
02
Audience Definition
Not demographics — psychology. We build audience personas grounded in real motivations, objections, buying triggers, and the language your customers actually use.
- Primary & secondary personas
- Jobs-to-be-done mapping
- Pain point hierarchy
- Buying journey stages
03
Messaging Architecture
A structured system for what to say, in what order, to whom. So every piece of content — from a homepage to a sales deck to a LinkedIn post — pulls from the same strategic foundation.
- Core value proposition
- Message hierarchy by audience
- Proof point library
- Objection responses
04
Brand Voice Guidelines
Personality, tone, and language principles that make your brand recognizable in text — and give your whole team a shared reference for how to write and speak as the brand.
- Voice attributes & definitions
- Tone spectrum by context
- Writing principles
- Do/don't examples
Who we work with
Strategy for companies
at a turning point.
Growth-Stage Companies
You've found product-market fit but the brand hasn't caught up to the business. Your positioning is fuzzy, your message is inconsistent, and your team doesn't have shared language. We fix that.
Founders & Startups
Building from zero — or repositioning after early market feedback. You need a clear point of view before you spend another dollar on marketing that points in the wrong direction.
Established Brands Pivoting
New leadership, new market, new competitor, new offer. When something material changes, the brand strategy needs to catch up — or you risk communicating who you used to be.
Our approach
Research-grounded.
Ruthlessly practical.
Discover
Listen before we write
Stakeholder interviews, customer research, competitive audit. We learn the business before we say anything about it.
Define
Find the truth worth saying
Workshop the insights into a positioning and messaging architecture that's differentiated and actually true.
Document
Make it usable
Strategy that lives in a deck no one reads doesn't work. We build systems your team can actually apply.
Activate
Put it to work
Brand strategy only pays off when it's in the wild. We help you apply it — to the website, the pitch, the content.
How it works
Five steps from fuzzy
to foundation.
01
Discovery & Stakeholder Interviews
We start by listening. Founder sessions, team interviews, customer conversations (where possible), and a competitive audit that maps where you sit in the market and where the openings are.
02
Positioning Workshop
A structured working session with your leadership team. We synthesize the research, challenge assumptions, and collaboratively land on a positioning approach that everyone can own.
03
Messaging Architecture Draft
We take the workshop output and build the full messaging system — positioning statement, audience personas, value props by segment, proof points, and voice guidelines.
04
Review & Refinement
You push back. We refine. Good strategy survives internal scrutiny — and the back-and-forth is where the document gets sharp enough to actually use.
05
Handoff & Activation
Final strategy deliverables plus a working session on how to apply them. Where does the positioning show up first? What gets rewritten? We don't just hand over a doc and disappear.
Common questions
Straight answers.
How long does a brand strategy engagement take?
Typically 4–6 weeks from kickoff to final deliverables. We move faster when stakeholders are available and aligned. Larger organizations with more complexity can run 8–10 weeks.
Do we need brand strategy before we work on the logo or website?
Yes — and this isn't just self-serving. Design and copy built without a strategic foundation tend to reflect opinions instead of insight. You'll iterate more, spend more, and end up with something that doesn't hold up. Strategy first saves time and money downstream.
What if we already have some brand work done?
That's common and it's fine. We'll audit what exists, identify what's working and what's not, and build from there rather than starting from scratch. Sometimes an existing positioning just needs sharpening.
Will you conduct customer research?
We can — and often recommend it for B2B clients with accessible customer bases. Customer interviews add real signal to the strategy. If your customer list is hard to reach or the timeline is tight, we can work from secondary research and stakeholder input.
Who needs to be involved from our side?
At minimum: the founder or CEO, and anyone with a strong point of view on the market (often a head of sales or marketing). Day-to-day management can be a single point of contact. We keep the process structured so we're not pulling too much time from the team.
What do we actually get at the end?
A complete brand strategy document covering positioning, audience personas, messaging hierarchy, proof points, and voice guidelines — formatted for actual use, not a presentation that sits in a folder. We also walk you through application so it doesn't stay theoretical.
What comes next
Strategy is just the start.
